Mediterranea Sementi, a renowned Italian seed producing company, has recently expanded its flagship plant in Teramo, Italy, by adding the fourth state-of-the-art seed processing lines in collaboration with Cimbria.
As a family-owned business with deep roots in the forage seed industry, Mediterranea Sementi has become a leader in producing and selecting premium-quality seeds. They produce over 60 varieties of seeds, with more than 20 species of forage grasses such as alfalfa, clover, rye grass, vetch and others. The production and selection of alfalfa seeds is the core business of Mediterranea Sementi. Founded in the 1980s, this pioneering company has grown significantly, now operating across 20,000 hectares in Italy and producing 60,000 quintals annually. The secret to Mediterranea Sementi's success lies in its cutting-edge production facilities. The company focuses on continuous innovation and improvement of their production processes, ensuring efficiency and quality.
Their premier seed processing plant in Teramo processes large volumes of seeds daily, maintaining high-quality standards to ensure only the best seeds are packaged. Remarkably, nearly all of this exceptional production is dedicated to exports, serving both European and international markets where Mediterranea Sementi's seed varieties are meticulously registered.
After the extension of the Teramo plant, which now boasts six forage seed processing lines, with the original two lines complemented by four new ones, were all engineered and installed in partnership with Cimbria. The strategic collaboration with Cimbria and the new premium processing lines has ensured Mediterranea Sementi can achieve very high seed purity and germination quality, and they are now pushing the boundaries of seed processing efficiency and quality. The new processing lines are designed with a comprehensive combination of machines including Delta Screen Cleaner, SEA.CX Optical Sorter, Gravity Separator, Indented Cylinder, CentriCoater, Jog Conveyor Dryer, Bucket Elevator and Conveyors.
The successful collaboration with Cimbria has led the family owned company to also invest in a new facility in Ravenna, Italy, supported by Cimbria's advanced expertise and premium solutions including the Delta Screen Cleaner, Indented Cylinder, Bucket elevators, and Conveyors. This brand-new seed processing line adds to the company’s productivity with a weekly production capacity of 1,000 quintals.
When selecting a supplier for their new processing lines, Mediterranea Sementi prioritized return on investment which is why they chose to continue working with Cimbria, who installed his first seed processing line in Teramo in 2016. President and CEO of Mediterranea Sementi, Gabriele Cozzi, stated that the company's main goal is to optimize speed and reach superior quality, not only meeting but surpassing the strictest global standards and regulations and exceeding the quality of other producers. He emphasized that achieving this ambitious goal relies heavily on advanced processing machinery, particularly optical sorters, even more than in the past.
Cozzi expressed that they aim to ensure the final products reaching the warehouses are meticulously selected, maintaining the highest standards. This is made possible exclusively through their investments in cutting-edge machinery provided by Cimbria.
Anticipating what’s ahead, Mediterranea Sementi remains committed to producing top-quality seeds. The company will continue to not just to meet industry standards but to exceed them, continuously pursuing higher levels of germination, purity, and environmental responsibility. This dedication to improvement and technological innovation solidifies Mediterranea Sementi's position as a true titan in the forage seed industry.
